About

Brian is a full-time independent journalist based in Pittsburgh.

He is a 2x 2023 Western PA Press Club Golden Quill award winner, in feature and business reporting. And a 3x finalist in the investigative reporting category.

He is a 2018 first prize winner in environmental reporting from the Keystone Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for reporting on lead in Pittsburgh’s drinking water.

In 2022 and 2021, he was awarded a grant from The Gumshoe Group to support his investigative reporting.

For several years, he served as City Design editor at NEXTpittsburgh. In college, he interned at Al-Arabiya’s DC bureau, where he helped to produce an interview with then-President George W. Bush in the White House’s Map Room in the immediate aftermath of the second American invasion of Iraq.

The president made fun of Brian’s Pittsburgh accent, calling him “Bran.”

“How do you spell that, Bran?” asked W.

“B-R-A-N Bran?”
